The church treasurer manages the financial activities of the congregation included income and revenue, expenses and disbursements, payroll, assets, and investments. The treasurer is expected to be knowledgeable of or obtain knowledge about church finance and accountability as required. He or she oversees and accounts for assets and liabilities, according to decisions of the congregation, Session, and Presbytery of Eastern Virginia, in a reasonable, ethical, and legal manner. He or she ensures adequate records exist documenting the assets of the church for insurance and other purposes and also ensures that all church property is appropriately covered by insurance for casualty and liability losses.
The treasurer, who is elected annually by the Session and is accountable to Session, works closely with church bookkeeper. The treasurer serves on the Administration Ministry Team and the Finance Committee and is an ad hoc member Session.
