SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES

Sundays 8:50am

the gathering

Presbyterians are communal people. We believe God is present where God's people gather together. We believe God speaks through our group discernment. This has long been a foundation of Presbyterian governance. Here at Royster, we also make communal discernment a foundation of worship. In The Gathering, the congregation joins together to hear God's voice through the reading of scripture. The Spirit moves as common threads emerge in what people hear in the scripture. Those common threads guide us in a time of quiet prayer and they infuse our weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper. Through music, conversation, prayer, and sacrament the community experiences the unity of God and God's people.

Sundays
11am

Worship Service

For us, worship is a time and space to mindfully reside in the presence of God Almighty. We gather and pause to give thanks to God, to ask of God, to apologize to God, and to hear from God. We believe God is present in our worship and makes God's self known to us through hymns, prayers, scriptures, and messages. In this service, our community joyfully and creatively uses the deep traditions of Christian worship to guide us to Christ and neighbor.

SUNDAY SCHOOL GROUPS

Sundays 9:30am

The present word

This adult Sunday School class uses a traditional structure of study materials and videos to present the lessons. The PC(USA) publishes The Present Word in partnership with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, The Moravian Church in America (North and South), and the United Church of Christ. The curriculum is designed with a six-year rotation through the Bible with each quarter focusing on one of eight themes: God, Creation, Hope, Faith, Community, Tradition, Justice, or Worship. New material is presented each quarter to ensure every book in the Bible is covered during the rotation. During Advent and Easter, the study material focuses on those significant events. The objectives of the material we use is to enable us as believers to: 1) know the content of the Bible; 2) understand the message of the Bible in light of experiences and relationships; and 3) be aware of God’s redeeming love as revealed in Jesus Christ so that we can respond in faith and love. We send the weekly lessons via email to anyone who does not want to (or who cannot) participate in the “live” class. If you would like to participate and receive the lessons via email, please send your email address to secretary@roysterpc.org. Our class members are always excited when new folks join in.
